Dr Cliff Bucknall became Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College Hospital in 1989.  He was appointed Clinical Director of Cardiology at Guy’s Hospital in 1992 and progressed to be Clinical Director of Cardiac Services for Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in 1995 – 97.  In 2002 he was appointed for an unprecedented further term at the request of his colleagues.

At London Bridge Hospital he has initiated the multi-disciplinary cardiac meetings pulling together the specialists from four London teaching hospitals, reviewing patient data together and reaching consensus.

His specialist interests are general cardiology, complex pacing and heart failure.

His MD thesis addressed the management of cardiac arrhythmias.  His pioneering research has lead to the use of MRI scanning and non-contact electrophysiological mapping to investigate the benefits of pacing in heart failure.

He promotes the integration of cardiac rehabilitation into the care pathway for all cardiac patients. This is a key aspect in achieving his aspiration of delivering the best long-term benefit for his patients.
