Dr Larkin qualified from Warwick Medical School after completing a BSc in Neuroscience from Kings College London. She started her specialist training in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) in 2009 on the London Deanery rotation. Her commitment to her chosen specialty preceded this and was demonstrated by enrolling on the MSc in SEM at Bath University. During her training she has worked in a variety of specialist sport injury clinics including University College London Hospitals and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, gaining experience in musculoskeletal injuries and exercise prescription. She was awarded the Donald Macleod Medal for the highest marks in the diploma from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Jo was fortunate enough to work at both the Olympics and Paralympics London 2012 in both the athletes’ village polyclinic as a sport physician and in the athletics stadium as a field of play team leader. She has worked in a variety of sports including premiership academy football, rugby, hockey, ice hockey and GB disability target shooting. She has experience with both international men’s & women’s rugby and football and has also worked extensively with the younger age group. Prior to taking on her new position at England RFU as International Performance Doctor for England Sevens and Women’s XVs Rugby, she was clinical lead of the centre for spines rehabilitation at DMRC Headley Court.

Special interests

Sports injuries of the upper and lower limb, medical management of sporting injuries, management of concussion and return to play, women’s health and performance, exercise prescription for chronic diseases, diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound and the management of tendinopathies including ESWT.
