| Profile | Dr O'Donohue qualified from University of Dublin, Trinity College, in 1987. He was awarded the Blaney Gold medal for First in Medicine, St James' Hospital. After house-jobs in Dublin, he moved to London in 1990 as a registrar and trained in Gastroenterology and Heptatology at King's College Hospital Liver Unit, St. Bartholomews/Homerton London, and then at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.
He has been a Consultant in his present post since July 1998. In his current career he has developed a major interest in endoscopy, both in his clinical practice (see above) and in management and service redesign. He is UK Chair of the Units subgroup of Joint Advisory Group which regulates endoscopy, and is colonoscopy lead for quality assurance of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening service in London, as well as Clinical Director of the SE London programme.
He maintains a comprehensive gastroenterology practice dealing with a comprehensive range of diseases of the upper and lower digestive tract, and continues to practice as a general physician admitting acute medical patients. He also maintains research interests in endoscopy service improvement and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. |
