Dr Kuitert trained in New Zealand before coming to the UK in 1990 to undertake clinical research in asthma. She then did research at Imperial College in leukotriene biosynthesis in asthma inflammation leading to a PhD in 2001. She became a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine in 1998 at Barts and the London NHS Trust. She sat on the Trust Antibiotic Review Group overseeing antibiotic policy for the Trust for over ten years. She has held posts as Honorary Senior Lecturer supervising research fellows, and Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine Clinical Academic Group. She also set up the DVT service which streamlined diagnosis and treatment of DVT and of PE, helping to develop Trust guidelines.

Dr Kuitert was previously Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service and Lead for the regional Bronchiectasis Service, both at Barts Health NHS Trust. She continues to be involves with research. Clinical interests include asthma, chest infections, cough, pulmonary complications of rheumatologic diseases, and thromboembolic disease.
