Clinical oncology

Cancer treatment using radiotherapy

Our team of leading clinical oncologists have the latest radiotherapy technology at their disposal, helping us to provide the most effective treatment

What is clinical oncology?

Clinical oncology uses radiotherapy and systemic therapy to treat and manage cancer, without surgery. Radiotherapy treats cancer using exact and carefully measured doses of radiation directed to the specific area of the body where the cancer is. Systemic therapy includes chemotherapy, hormone therapy and biological agents.

Clinical oncologists manage all different types of cancer and work as part of a multidisciplinary team to give you a tailored approach to treatment.

Clinical oncology is an area where many new technologies are developing, we offer the most advanced radiotherapy technology including RapidArc.

Our two state-of-the-art linear accelerators allow image-guided radiotherapy, and RapidArc can be used on both machines to deliver radiotherapy faster and with greater accuracy than previous treatments. Treatment times can be reduced to as little as three minutes.

As a state-of-the-art piece of equipment it allows a consultant to direct radiation beams to specific areas within a patient's head without...

How does Gamma Knife treatment work?

In this video, Mr Ian Sabin, Consultant Neurosurgeon, explains how Gamma Knife works and what conditions it can be used to help treat at The London Gamma Knife Centre.
