| Profile | Dr MacCarthy trained in Bristol and Oxford before completing his PhD in endothelial function at the University Hospital of Wales (with an MRC Clinical Training Fellowship).
He went on to train in coronary intervention at King's College Hospital and the OLV Cardiac Centre in Aalst, Belgium.
He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at King's College Hospital in 2003 and Clinical Lead for Cardiology in 2007. He specializes in coronary intervention (angioplasty/stenting) and structural heart disease interventions, running the successful PFO/ASD device closure and trans-catheter aortic valve programmes at King's.
He has an active research programme and his interests include coronary physiology, primary angioplasty and trans-catheter aortic interventions. |
