Dr Ronald Beaney did his undergraduate training in Scotland and his general medical training in the UK and abroad. His clinical oncology training was at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. He was a Research Fellow at the Medical Research Council’s Cyclotron Unit at the Hammersmith Hospital where most of his work was on cerebral function. He spent three years as a Senior Lecturer in the department of immunology at The University of Birmingham investigating the effects of ionising radiation on DNA.

He has been a Consultant Clinical Oncologist attached to Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital but also working at Kings College Hospital since 1990. His subspecialty interests are tumours of the brain and pelvis (prostate and gynaecological malignancies).

He has been on the Faculty Board of the Royal College of Radiologists and an examiner for the same college. He is a Council member of the British neuro-oncology society and a member of the brain tumour working party of the European Organisation for the treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

His current interests are novel drugs for treating tumours and the use of stereotactic radiation – both gamma knife and cyber knife.
