| Profile | Mr Darakhshan is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon with an expertise in Laparoscopic Surgery and specialising in the management of Pelvic Floor disorders, currently working at Guy’s and St Thomas' Hospitals in London.
He graduated from King’s College Hospital, London and received his surgical training in London and the South East of England. Mr Darakhshan undertook specialist colorectal training at Concord General Repatriation Hospital in Sydney, St Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College Hospital and St Mark’s Hospital in London, where he developed his interest and expertise in the management of Pelvic Floor disorders and Laparoscopic Colorectal surgery.
Mr Darakhshan’s thesis and main research looked in to the use of the Gracilis Neosphincter in the treatment of incontinence at the Royal London Hospital and was awarded the higher degree of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2008. He has published on general surgical, colorectal and Pelvic Floor disorders.
Mr Darakhshan’s treats colorectal and general surgical disorders reflecting his areas of interest and mirroring his NHS practice, including endoscopy, colonoscopy and management of rectal bleed, anal fissures, haemorrhoids and pilonidal sinus disease. He performs colorectal resections for cancer and benign diseases, a major proportion of which is carried out laparoscopically, as well as open and laparoscopic hernia repairs.
His other area of particular interest is the surgical treatment of bowel motility disorders, rectal evacuatory dysfunction and incontinence utilising the techniques of Sacral Nerve Stimulation and the STARR procedure as well as laparoscopic techniques for rectopexy and enterocoele repairs.
