| Profile | Chris qualified in 1980 from Sheffield University Medical School. His cardiothoracic training was undertaken at St Bartholomew's Hospital, St Thomas Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children and the Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham. He undertook two years research at the Rayne Institute, St Thomas' as a BHF Junior Research Fellow, being awarded an MD for studies in myocardial protection.
Chris' areas of specialist surgical expertise including all aspects of surgery of the aortic valve; including homograft insertion, aortic valve repair and valve-sparing techniques, keyhole surgery, aortic root replacement and especially the innovative transcatheter aortic value implantation (TAVI). St Thomas' has the largest UK experience of this new valve technique and Chris is one of only two surgeons involved in the programme. He has pioneered the introduction of TAVI at London Bridge Hospital.
His other area of specialist interest is in surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysm disease; including aortic dissection, aortic arch replacement, hybrid vascular procedures and endovascular stenting. Chris monitors patients long term in aortic surveillance clinics. |
