Following house jobs at Kings College Hospital, Mr David Oram was appointed as an SHO in Accident and Emergency in Bermuda followed by a year in general practice on the island. He returned to London to pursue his career in general obstetrics and gynaecology at Kings College Hospital during which time he developed his first research interest which centred upon the problems of the menopause and hormone replacement therapy. After obtaining his specialist qualification (MRCOG) he spent a year in Kind Edward VIII Hospital, Durban, South Africa, undergoing further training in general OB & GYN.

On return, he took up a Senior Registrar position back at King's and in 1980/81 transferred to Georgetown University, Washington DC, the U.S.A. where he underwent training in gynaecological oncology. On his return to the UK, he was appointed as a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Royal London Hospital and following the merger of this hospital with St Bartholomew's his current position is Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Surgeon to Barts and The London NHS Trust, based at the Gynaecological Cancer Unit at St Bartholomew's Hospital.
