Mr Bliss graduated, with medical honours from The University of London, in 1990.  After gaining the general FRCS in 1995, he underwent specialist orthopaedic and trauma surgery training based at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington with posts including The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

After obtaining the gold medal in the Part III FRCS exam in Orthopaedics and Trauma in 2000, he spent a year in sub-specialist fellowship training at The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, focusing on knee surgery.

He was appointed as a consultant to Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London in 2002, with his elective practice being exclusively knee surgery.

He is closely involved in training surgeons in complex knee surgery and is an Inter-Collegiate Examiner for the Part III FRCS exam in Orthopaedics, the final examination before trainee surgeons become consultants.

Mr Bliss’ practice involves all aspects of management of knee injuries and he has particular experience in ligament reconstruction and revision knee replacement.  He lectures throughout the UK and Europe, has published surgical research and runs numerous courses in knee surgery.

Special interests

Sports knee injuries.  Arthroscopic knee surgery, including ACL reconstruction and complex ligament reconstruction.  Mini knee replacement, conventional knee replacement and complex revision knee replacement. Management of arthritis in the sportsman and middle aged athlete
