What is plastic surgery?
Plastic surgery is the medical specialty dedicated to improving or restoring the appearance and/or function of a part of the body.
It's made up of two areas:
- Cosmetic surgery: Cosmetic procedures are carried out for aesthetic reasons and include aspects like face lifts and nose reshaping.
- Reconstructive surgery: Reconstructive surgery is usually carried out after a serious injury, cancer treatment or if a child is born with a cleft palate, genetic disorder or an abnormality in their skull
