Ms Avril Chang

Avril Chang graduated in 1988 from Monash University Medical School in Australia with Honours and gained her Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1997.

She underwent specialist laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal training at Leeds General Infirmary and St. Mary's Hospital in London.  She has full membership of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons, the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society and the BMA.

Her interests are in all aspects of gallstone diseases and the surgical treatment of obesity.  She specialises in performing laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery for all operations which she undertakes. She also performs all types of hernia repair including laparoscopic and open extraperitoneal approaches - newer methods which reduce pain and discomfort.

She is heavily involved in the training of junior surgeons particularly on the practical aspects of laparoscopic surgery and safety in theatre.
