London Bridge Station and Tooley Street major changes

As work moves across London Bridge Station there will be a new worksite on Tooley Street

  • From 30 April 2016, work on the new station entrance on Tooley Street commences
  • From August 2016 platforms 1 to 3 are being rebuilt

To safely undertake the work on the station front an extension to the worksite beyond the station footprint will be built. This means the southern footpath and one lane to motorised traffic will be closed. These works are taking place as part of the Transport & Works Act for London Bridge and are essential to the rebuild of London Bridge station

London Bridge and the surrounding area remain open for business throughout the rebuilding of London Bridge station

  • From 3 May 2016 to February 2018 Tooley Street will be closed to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will travel in the eastbound lane
  • The southern footpath (on the station side of the road) will be closed from Cottons Bridge to Bermondsey Street
  •  Cyclists will be able to travel in both directions on Tooley Street: westbound with the traffic and eastbound in a segregated lane

Pedestrians

The southern footpath (on the station side of the road) will be closed from Cottons Bridge to Bermondsey Street:

Until February 2018 there will be further closures on the southern footpath

  • Removal of street furniture on northern pavement
  • Widening pavement on northern pavement
  • The pedestrian crossing near the Pret will be removed and there will be a temporary crosswalk under Cottons Bridge
  • Alternative routes including St Thomas Street entrance opening August 2016

Cyclists

  • Cyclists will be able to travel in both directions on Tooley Street: westbound with the traffic and eastbound in a segregated lane
  • The eastbound cycle lane will be segregated from traffic and pedestrians with a 1.2m high barrier

Road Users

  • Tooley Street will be closed to eastbound traffic from London Bridge to Bermondsey Street
  • There will be a signed diversion route via Borough High Street, Great Dover Street and Tower Bridge Road
  • Allow more time for your journey, especially during the peak hours of 07:00 – 10:00 and 16:00 – 19:00 on weekdays

Freight/Deliveries

  • Tooley Street will be closed to eastbound traffic from London Bridge to Bermondsey Street
  • There will be a signed diversion route via Borough High Street, Great Dover Street and Tower Bridge Road

 You may wish to consider:

  •  Changing the times of your deliveries to avoid congestion;
  • Using alternative routes that avoid the area to make your deliveries

Buses

  • Co-ordinated the diversions have been placed around Tooley Street in collaboration with TfL and the London Borough of Southwark.
  • Routes 47, 343, 38, N199 and RV1 will be diverted and will stop at all bus stops along Tower Bridge Road in the northbound direction
  •  Notices will be posted at bus stops and emails will be sent to registered Oystercard users
