We are pleased to announce that in November 2014, London Bridge Hospital Endoscopy department was awarded JAG accreditation!

The Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) operates within the Clinical Standards Department of the Royal College of Physicians. It was established in 1994 under the auspices of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges [AMRC] specifically through the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of Radiology and the Royal College of General Practitioners.

The JAG’s core objectives are:

  • To agree and set acceptable standards for competence in endoscopic  procedures
  • To quality assure endoscopy units
  • To quality assure endoscopy training
  • To quality assure endoscopy services

JAG is an accreditation programme which ensures the quality and safety of patient care by defining and maintaining the standards by which endoscopy is practised with quality and safety assurance.

Upon visiting the Endoscopy Department at London Bridge Hospital, regulators commented “The London Bridge Endoscopy Service offers an excellent patient centred experience, providing high quality care for UK and international patients, during a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This is a well led service with a clear focus on high standards of safety, quality and standards of care. The workforce is highly competent, and an asset to the organisation. Patient feedback supports an excellent caring experience, and we highly commend the service on achieving JAG accreditation.”

The JAG report also congratulated London Bridge Endoscopy Department on the following:

  • Offering excellent information and support systems for patients, which is supported by positive patient feedback.
  • The excellent systems to monitor safety and quality, including endoscopist key performance indicators, and sharing learning through the organisation.
  • The excellent nursing leadership of the endoscopy unit. This leadership allows the team to develop as a highly experienced and knowledgeable workforce, supporting patients in a caring environment.

Phillip Deppeler, Endoscopy Manager said “having JAG Accreditation can give both patient and GP the peace of mind that London Bridge Hospital is a well led service with a clear focus on high standards of safety, quality and standards of care. JAG Accreditation places the patient’s experience at the centre of care."
