Our Awards and Accreditations

Our awards and accreditations 


We were the first independent hospital to submit cardiac surgery data to the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland database. We are regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and accredited by CHKS. This is a quality management process enabling healthcare organisations to examine themselves critically against a nationally recognised framework of organisational standards.

We are qualified and audited by the following institutions:

  • Human Tissue Authority for Solid Organ Transplants, Stem Cells and Tissues Implantation
  • CHKS

Presently, we are working towards the JACIE accreditation. The primary aim of this is to promote high-quality patient care and laboratory performance in haematopoietic stem cell collection, processing and transplantation centres through an internationally recognised system of accreditation.

JAG Accreditation

In November 2014, London Bridge Hospital Endoscopy department was awarded JAG accreditation. JAG is an accreditation programme which ensures the quality and safety of patient care by defining and maintaining the standards by which endoscopy is practised with quality and safety assurance.

Upon visiting the Endoscopy Department at London Bridge Hospital, regulators commented “The London Bridge Endoscopy Service offers an excellent patient centred experience, providing high quality care for UK and international patients, during a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This is a well led service with a clear focus on high standards of safety, quality and standards of care. The workforce is highly competent, and an asset to the organisation. Patient feedback supports an excellent caring experience, and we highly commend the service on achieving JAG accreditation.” Read the full story here.

MacMillan Accreditation

In March 2015, London Bridge Hospital was awarded with a MacMillan accreditation. London Bridge Hospital was assessed on four different criteria and scored an average of 4/5 to meet the required standard, including design and use of space, the user’s journey, service experience and user’s voice.

London Bridge Hospital is the first from the HCA to receive this prestigious award and Oncology Manager Jane Loughnane, believes that all HCA oncology facilities will want to achieve this award in the future. Hospitality Assured

Hospitality AssuredThe Hotel Services Team at London Bridge Hospital has worked hard to achieve accreditation within this institute, having successfully achieved accreditation at our first assessment, in 2015, with a score of 66.8%.

This has since improved, with a score under the Service and Business Excellence of 68.6%* – a leading achievement within the healthcare sector of the hospitality industry. Read the full blog post here.

British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSs) accredited training organisation

The housekeeping department has been awarded an accreditation to become a British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSs) Accredited Training Organisation. This means we can now deliver our own accredited and certified training to the Housekeeping team. Read the full blog post here.

  • BSi Certificate of Registration Quality Management System ISO 13485:2003 & ISO 13485:2012

Association for Perioperative Practice

The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) reviewed the theatre departments at London Bridge Hospital and concluded they meet AfPP national standards and recommendations for 'Safe Perioperative Pratice'


To promote continuous development of the highest possible standards in healthcare, we carry out the following audits:

  • Mattress and bed audits
  • MCO
  • National audits, blood transfusion (Tonsillectomy)
  • NJR
  • Outreach
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Spinal outcomes.

CDU Assessment 

Our Sterilising and Decontamination Department (CDU) < Central Decontamination Unit> have recently been assessed and certified as successfully meeting the requirements for decontamination of medical and surgical instruments in accordance with the requirements of:

  • ISO 13485:2003, ISO 13485:2012 
  • Directive 93/42/EEC
  • Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, Annex V, Article 12

Documented audits 

At London Bridge Hospital, we value clinical audits as a means to improve the care we provide for our patients.  We work hard to ensure that we are measuring the quality of the care we provide, and that we use this information to improve our services; as such, we continually carry out audits throughout the year.


Laing and Buisson Award 

London Bridge Hospital is proud to hold a prestigious Laing and Buisson Award for excellence in the ‘Best Medical Practice’ category.

Investor in People Status

The hospital has been accredited with the Investors in People Gold Award, in September 2014. Read more here.

BUPA Accreditation – Breast, Bowel and Gynaecology 

We currently have both BUPA Breast and BUPA Colorectal accreditations, and are currently working towards BUPA Gynaecological accreditation. We are also part of the HCA Cancer Network.

Staff Training and Professional Development

All clinical staff are registered with the appropriate professional bodies. Whilst formal training and education, including university courses, assist in maintaining staff competency , we also have a considerable full range of work-based, in-house workshops which includes basic/advanced life support, infection control, health and safety and customer care.
