HCA International Statement Update

date: 05 January 2012

HCA International Statement Update regarding Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) implants for breast augmentation surgery.

In October 2010 the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) imposed a precautionary ban on PIP implants pending independent tests to establish if any health risks are associated with this product.

The tests, conducted in association with relevant UK professional bodies, have found no evidence of a potential for cancer or chemical toxicity from these implants.  The advice from the MHRA is that there is no reason for routine removal therefore.

We are currently reviewing our records to identify patients who have received surgery with PIP implants and are in the process of contacting all relevant consultant surgeons. Any patient who is concerned should make contact with their consultant.

Our patients’ welfare and peace of mind is of the utmost importance.  We will continue to monitor the situation, post updates from the MHRA as they happen and act according to their guidance.
