London – 7th January 2012: Last Friday the MHRA advised that they found no evidence to support routine removal of PIP breast implants and they recommended that any patients who were concerned about their implant should seek clinical advice from their consultant surgeon.
HCA International’s leadership supports the MHRA’s position, and has today issued a commitment to any patients that have had PIP breast implant surgery at one of its hospitals, saying that it will provide full support to address their concerns.
Kurt Thomson, one of London Bridge Hospital’s Radiographers recently organised a charity event to help raise money for the Phaya Thai Babies Home in Bangkok. A team of specialists at London Bridge Hospital have become the first in the UK to offer a new test to identify patients at risk of complications following heart surgery.
More than 120,000 people undergo coronary artery procedures each year including heart surgery and angioplasty - where a tiny balloon is inserted into the blocked artery to clear it.
In October 2010 the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) imposed a precautionary ban on PIP implants pending independent tests to establish if any health risks are associated with this product.

The Haven provides, completely free of charge, a wide range of therapies which help people to deal with the physical and emotional side effects of breast cancer. Pink Buddies counts a number of young women amongst its volunteers, and the group decided that The Haven should be a key focus for fundraising.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a new procedure that has been introduced at London Bridge Hospital which can be used as an alternative to standard surgical aortic valve replacement. The procedure is performed on the beating heart without the need for a sternotomy (an incision in the centre of the chest) or cardiopulmonary bypass (takes over the function of the heart and lungs during surgery)
A new consultant led allergy clinic has opened at London Bridge Hospital. The clinic is treating patients with both environmental and food induced allergies and those for whom certain drugs become allergens.
The allergy clinic is led by one of Europe’s most distinguished consultants, Dr Pierre Dugué who trained and practised for many years in Paris and on the Cote D’Azur.

Chief Perfusionist Alan Rayner and his team have combined a range of specialised techniques along with the latest technology to reduce damage to blood, and more efficient ways of recycling a patient’s blood during a major operation, thereby reducing the level of blood loss during and after operations.

London Bridge Hospital is now offering a new day case treatment for patients with early prostate cancer using a pinhole surgery Brachytherapy single-stage procedure.
The enhanced Brachytherapy operation, which is performed under a light general anaesthetic, enables urologists to map and treat a tumour with greater accuracy. Most patients can return to work in a couple of days and experience little discomfort from the procedure.
