Sports Nutrition Clinic
Nutrition can play a pivotal role in supporting the training and competition demands of any recreational or elite athlete. However, with the vast growth of the internet, there is an overwhelming quantity of readily accessible, often biased and commercially driven sports nutrition advice.
At London Bridge Hospital, our Dietetic Department now offer clinics with Accredited Sports Nutrition Experts who are trained to translate up-to-date scientific evidence into individualised practical advice to enhance both exercise and sporting performance.
The quality, quantity and timing of dietary intake creates an important and fundamental base for sports performance at every level, from amateurs to professionals. The collective goals of improving health and fitness, increasing training capacity, delaying fatigue and promoting recovery can be met through customised nutritional strategies with measureable outcomes.
Your initial consultation will begin with an individualised, comprehensive nutritional assessment including anthropometric measurements, biochemistry, clinical symptoms, a diet history and a weekly training log. Best practice recommendations will be used to help create customised food and hydration objectives to optimise training adaptations. The main aims of which are to ensure:
- Adequate energy for training and during competition
- Nutrients required for tissue repair, growth and recovery
- Fluids for hydration
- Nutrients required for normal body functions, health and well-being.
- Avoidance of the overtraining syndrome and chronic fatigue
