Orthopaedic surgery is the surgical treatment of diseases and injuries affecting the musculo-skeletal system (the system that enables physically movement using the muscles and skeleton). The aim of orthopaedic surgery, therefore, is to restore lost function in any part of the musculo-skeletal system to allow the patient to return to their former way of life.
