I was looking after a terminally ill patient who was still able bodied but had to remain an inpatient for the treatment he was receiving, and therefore would not be able to go home.
The patient was a keen musician and missed playing the piano more than anything. He expressed his wish to play the piano once more before it was too late. I contacted a local restaurant who had a piano for customer entertainment, and they agreed that he could come in and play it before the restaurant opened in the evening. He was delighted with this and went to the restaurant for ‘a very enjoyable afternoon’ as his family later told me when unfortunately he passed away soon afterwards.
