Outstanding urology services at London Bridge Hospital

Urology is the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the male genitourinary tract and female urinary organs. London Bridge Hospital has an extensive service within this very personalised and diverse field of medicine. Here we attract some of the leading urological and genitourinary consultants in the country. In order to support these consultants at the height of their clinical practice, London Bridge Hospital provides outstanding facilities for all conditions and treatment, from the routine to the highly complex and rare.

Our patients have rapid access to consultations, screening, diagnosis and treatment for the full range of conditions, including the bladder and kidneys, prostate and the male reproductive system. Our consultants, often from London’s distinguished teaching hospitals, are among London’s clinical leaders in their urological subspecialty. These consultants continue to improve outcomes for our patients by using the latest proven, ever-more-precise techniques, including advanced robotics and laparoscopy.

Outpatients at HCA UK at The Shard

Outpatient appointments with most of our consultant urologists and genitourinary specialists are located at HCA UK at The Shard. This contemporary clinical setting includes one-stop urology clinics where most diagnostics and imaging modalities can be performed, including flexible cystoscopy and urodynamics to test urine flow rates.

On the 5th floor patients will access London Bridge Hospital’s imaging department where X-ray, CT and MRI scans can be carried out. Imaging is reported on by consultant radiologists specialising in urological conditions ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

On site is the da Vinci® Xi Surgical System: a robot helping surgeons to perform the most complex, delicate procedures. Our urology team features some of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the UK and, unusually for a private hospital, a robotic surgical assistant present on site too.

Aquablation therapy

Aquablation therapy is the latest advancement in surgical treatment for conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and associated lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).

At HCA UK we use the AquaBeam robotic system, a heat-free robotic system that uses advanced surgical mapping to create a bespoke surgical plan, and real-time imaging to safely remove enlarged prostate tissue, offering relief from urinary symptoms while preserving urinary and sexual function.

Robotics technology

We are dedicated to investing in the latest technology to enable surgeons to perform the latest procedures such as the da Vinci® Xi robot at Private Care at Guy’s. Its dual console system allows surgeons even greater control and enhanced vision whilst performing keyhole surgery. It features intra-operative ultrasound and the Firefly® system for intra-operative identification of tissue vascularity.
