Medical Admissions Service
As part of the General Internal Medicine specialty at London Bridge Hospital, our new Medical Admissions Service is available.
The Medical Admissions Service is an instant, expert referral system for patients who require an urgent, general medical Consultant opinion.
The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with access to six consulting physicians who work on an on-call basis. In urgent cases, patients will be admitted immediately following assessment. A private ambulance is available for transport to the hospital and the service also offers self-pay packages for non-insured patients.
Conditions treated by the Medical Admissions Service include:
- Abdominal conditions
- Bowel-related conditions
- Chest conditions
- Chest infections
- Pleural effusions
- Pulmonary embolism
- General medical conditions
- Palliative care
- Pyrexia of unknown origin
- Neurological conditions
- Transient ischaemic attack (TIA)
The service excludes obvious A&E cases, including acute bleeding and crushing chest pains etc. Chronic renal failure, dialysis, gynaecological conditions, obstetrics, orthopaedic conditions, paediatric cases and surgical referrals are also not included.
A deposit from the patient is required on admission. This service is not suitable for patients travelling from abroad on holiday.
The Medical Admissions Service is part of a wider HCA International project. There are similar systems in place at The Wellington Hospital and The Harley Street Clinic.
To access the service, call 020 7407 3100 and ask for the Medical Admissions Service. You will be given the number of the consulting physician to discuss your patient’s needs. They will assess and, if necessary, admit the patient. Alternatively, you can call the GP Liaison Department on 020 7234 2009 for further details about the service.
