Oncology involves the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. With leading chemotherapy facilities the cancer service at London Bridge Hospital offers a comfortable and friendly environment tailored to suit the needs of all oncology patients.
Situated in 29 Tooley Street this newly refurbished specialised unit is equipped with state of the art chemotherapy equipment and run by a friendly and supportive team of senior cancer nurses and support staff. This welcoming facility offers a holistic approach to your care, making use of chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and immunotherapy. The facility includes two fully equipped consulting rooms for outpatient consultations and a Complementary Therapies room.
Situated in comfortable surroundings the inpatient services specialise in surgical (particularly breast and Maxilliofacial) and medical oncology, diagnostic and interventional radiology. There are 13 single rooms, 2 of which are isolation rooms. These are used to treat patients undergoing Stem Cell transplantation following high dose chemotherapy. Our nurses are all qualified within the specialty of cancer nursing giving them the necessary skills to ensure your treatment is administered within a safe environment and your stay is made as comfortable as possible. Your care will be consistently given by team members who you will come to know well, as the nature of your treatment means you may need to spend a prolonged period of time in the hospital. There is a 'Quiet Room' set aside for relatives.
Within the cancer service at London Bridge Hospital we have a range of support services:
A Specialist Breast Care Nurse provides support for patients from diagnosis through to treatment and follow up.
A Palliative Care Nurse Specialist provides symptom management, counselling, support and help with the transfer of patients to community palliative teams or hospices.
A Clinical Psychologist is able to provide counselling on a more formal basis.
A team of Complementary Therapists offer Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Massage in a dedicated area within the Chemotherapy Day Unit and in the inpatient rooms.
A Hospital Chaplain is able to visit patients during the week and can offer Holy Communion to patients as required.
